How to use the Hub
Short guides for players, captains, club admins and league admins. Everything works on your phone; scorecards keep working without signal and save when you are back online.
Finding your way
The bar at the bottom has four tabs. Each one has a row of buttons along the top for its parts.
- Matches: Upcoming, Previous results, Saved cards, Send results, Match dates and Date changes.
- Club: Club night, Shuttle Ratings, Ladder, Team stats, and for club admins Manage club: People and roles, Players, Members, Named players and Club details.
- Standings: each league’s tables, fixtures and results, with a picker for the league.
- Me: My badminton, this Guide and the League rules. The Settings button holds your name, email, password, alerts and calendar.
A red number on a tab means something is waiting for you: on Matches, a card to send or check; on Club, a club night coming up or a player to approve.
Captains and sub-captains
Before the match: Who can play?
- On Matches → Upcoming, tap Who can play? under the match.
- Tap Ask the squad. Players get an alert and reply in the Hub; you can also tap a reply for someone who told you in person or on WhatsApp.
- Tap Suggest a line-up for a suggestion from this season’s results, change it as you like, then Save line-up.
Players named to a higher team are left out of the suggestion: they cannot play for a lower team (rule 9g).
On the night: the scorecard
- On Matches → Upcoming, tap Open scorecard. Your line-up fills in; on match day the other team’s line-up fills in too, if they use the Hub.
- To change the order, drag a name by its ⠿ handle. This works until the first game has a score, and the other team’s card follows your new order.
- Enter each game’s score. The card shows who is winning and the league points.
- When it is finished, both captains sign in the signature boxes.
Only the person who started a card can change it. Everyone else on the team sees it read-only. Your cards are in Matches → Saved cards, with Recently deleted and backups at the bottom. For a friendly or cup match, use Score a match that is not listed under Upcoming.
After the match: send your card
- Go to Matches → Send results and tap Send our card on the match.
- When the other team sends theirs, the Hub compares them. If every game and name matches, the result is agreed straight away.
- If they differ, both teams see exactly where. Whoever has it wrong fixes their card and taps Send our card again.
When the other team sends their card first, you get an alert and a red number on Matches. Cards are due within 10 days (rule 12). The Hub reminds you the morning after the match and 2 days before the deadline. If only one team sends a card, it is accepted after 3 days. A league admin may need to approve the result before it goes in the table.
Moving a match
- Go to Matches → Match dates and tap Ask to move.
- Choose why, and up to three dates. The Hub suggests dates when the home venue has room and neither team already plays that week.
- The other captain accepts a date, suggests others, or asks the league to decide.
Ask at least 8 days before the match, unless it is bad weather or the hall is not available (rule 13). Matches finish by 30 April unless the league agrees (rule 16). Add dates your team cannot play under Dates we cannot play. Fixture changes from the league are in Matches → Date changes.
Your team’s stats
Club → Team stats shows how each of your teams has done this season: matches, rubbers and games, match by match, and every player’s record for the team.
Players
Getting started
- Sign in with Google, or create an account with your email. That is your own profile: answer six questions for your starting Shuttle Rating.
- In My badminton, tap Join a club. The club’s admin accepts you (and joins you up with your old results if you have played for them). You can join more than one club. You then see your results, partners and Shuttle Rating there.
- Is your club not in the Hub? Under Join a club, apply to set it up. Once the Hub’s owner approves it, you are its club admin.
- Turn on alerts in My badminton to hear about “Can you play?” requests, match changes and club nights. On iPhone, add the Hub to your Home Screen first.
Things you can do
- Reply to Can you play? with one tap.
- Say if you are coming to a club night (through the link in your club’s WhatsApp group, or the alert), and tap I’m here when you arrive. My clubs in My badminton shows each club you play at, your membership and sessions left, and which clubs send you club night alerts.
- Find a club (Me, or the welcome page): every club with its coming nights, places, price and Shuttle Rating guide. Ask for a place on a night; the club accepts, offers a trial night, or declines. After a trial the club welcomes you, suggests another group, or says it is not the right level yet (with clubs that suit you).
- Find a game (Me): say you are looking for a game and ask others near your Shuttle Rating; contact details are shared only once both say yes.
- Club ladder (Club → Ladder): challenge someone up to three places above you; beat them and take their place. Results count towards your Shuttle Rating.
- Download my data (Settings): a file of everything the Hub keeps about you.
- Shuttle Rating: your rating from 1 to 8. New players answer six questions in My badminton for a starting rating; then every league rubber and club night game moves it, more for beating stronger players and winning by more points. The reliability shows how sure the Hub is. See your club’s leaderboard under Club → Shuttle Ratings.
- Ask about your game in My badminton: an AI coach answers from your own league matches and club nights.
- Show your league results in the public player averages, if you want to (off unless you switch it on).
Settings
Your name, email, password and club are in Settings: the button at the top of Me (captains and club admins) or in My badminton (players). A new email only takes over when you open the link we send to it. If you sign in with Google, your email and password are managed by Google.
Club admins
- Club → Club night: set up a night ahead or start one now, with places and the price for people without a membership. Tap Send invites: your players get an alert and WhatsApp opens with the night’s link to post in your group. Everyone answers through the link or the alert, members too; someone new is added as a guest. When it is full, people join a waiting list and move up if someone drops out. Tick Paid for people paying on the night, or cancel a night (everyone coming is told). The Hub picks fair games on every court.
- Manage club → Members → Guests: people asking for a place from Find a club (accept, trial night or decline, then how the trial went), and your settings for new players: area, Shuttle Rating guide for the club and each group, taking new players, trial night first, first night free.
- Club night → Court screen: open it on a tablet or TV at the hall to show every court, who is next and who is waiting.
- Manage club → Club details → Your club’s public page: about the club, club nights, contact, website, and where you play (town, main venue, address and postcode). Find a club shows it with a map link, and the town is used for its area filter.
- Manage club → Club details → Send an announcement: a message to your club’s players, as an alert and in My badminton.
- Share live score on a scorecard: a link anyone can follow, rubber by rubber.
- Manage club → Members: plans (a club membership with a member price on the night, and packs of sessions for members or, at a higher price, for everyone), each player’s membership and sessions left (a pack for a block booking holds their place every week and uses a session whether they come or not; unconfirmed places go to the waiting list a few hours before), guests (and who to offer a membership), block bookings of your courts (the Hub sets up each week’s night and reminds you a week before to send the invites), the answer cut-off, and spreadsheets for your treasurer.
- Manage club → Players: accept players who ask to join (choose their old record if they have played for you), rename or merge records, and update stats.
- Club → Manage club → Club details → Enter a new team: new teams start in the bottom division of their league, once a league admin accepts them, and move up a division each season they win theirs.
- Club → Named players: name players for each team by 1 October (rule 9). The Hub checks the rules from the scorecards.
- Manage club → People and roles: make people captains, sub-captains or club admins, and invite people who have not signed up.
- Club → Team stats: every team in your club.
League admins
Open Me → League admin. A second row of buttons has its four parts:
- Season set-up: seasons and divisions, home nights and venues, season dates, generating and publishing fixtures, and the rules page.
- Results and disputes: approve results, settle cards that do not match, and add or deduct points (for example rule 12b, late cards).
- Date requests: decide moves the teams cannot agree on, and approve dates after 30 April.
- Named players: every club, with the rule checks.
- Every Monday you get an email with the week’s results and anything waiting for you.
